Iceland

I'm starting this on the plane. I'm sitting on the plane now. In the window seat. I've been debating whether or not to record the takeoff. I usually do, but for some reason I don't see the utility in it this time. I don't think I'll use it for the video, and I don't really like at all!! the EasyJet logo on the wingtip …
It's rainy and white blue and I'll sleep and dream through the flight.
I recorded the takeoff, and landing. Of course I did.
Iceland Is A Fat Girl, With A Pretty Face.
That is how I feel about it.
On the bus into Reykjavik the opinion was formed.
To be honest (which I always am) this country is making some gigantic mistakes.
They've had a lot of success with what they've done with this rock, but their natural wonders accessible from the capital are really quite small and unimpressive. There are some who are honest about them, and others who kid themselves. Or these people just haven't seen enough of the world, and are impressed but what are actually quite unimpressive things.
The main selling points of the country are Reykjavik: the gloomy capital, in practice a vulnerable frozen city-state, and the barren emptiness far beyond, the dark satanic broken bit.
A lot of the time even if I don't feel that interested in a country’s main tourist spots I'll still go, give them a chance to surprise me. I chose not to in the case of Iceland. They genuinely annoy me. A small waterfall, an average geyser, a man-made ‘blue lagoon’ swimming pool built from the runoff of a nearby powerplant. I think they all undercut and disappoint the actual strength of the country.
Further out things look very interesting but nearby Reykjavik not so much at all. They just needed some things nearby though, to pump up and pick up some quick and easy billions. Smart but I see through. I see through.
This trip was to Reykjavik. A three day jump to see that vulnerable frozen city-state. The highlights: I met a cool dog and lots of chill ducks and swans, walked atop a cracking frozen lake, and creeped at sundown through an icy dark cemetery. Lots of other fun stuff too. I liked Reykjavik, and I like Iceland.
I'll return one day and complete an epic through the true wild out there.
And from the dark, scarred landscapes I saw here and the chubby, weird, white hot mountains that surround Reykjavik, I am excited for that future trip.
I liked Reykjavik, and I like Iceland. Maybe one day I will love them both, it definitely has that potential.
But, just like a FAT bitch with a real pretty face — changes must be made.
It's a really pretty fat girl. She just needs to focus on her strengths.
